Tough Mucca, October 2024

Tough Mucca is an event carried out to raise funds for the Isle Listen Charity which champions Young People's Mental Health. It takes place on land belonging to Moorhouse Farm (Captain of the Parish of Rushen Paul Costain) and Ballachurry Farm (owned by former Captain of Rushen Parish Stanley Clucas). It is basically a cross country run over the fields but with obstacles to tackle such as walking through tyres, crossing water by holding on to bars above your head, climbing over near vertical walls or over large round bales of straw. Entrants are generally in teams but can also be individuals. This year it took place on 6th October and was certainly a muddy event. There are two courses which were tackled by 640 competitors although not all finished. Several taking part were children although they entered with the same enthusiasm as the adults.

The 7.5 km course had 168 finishers and the winner was Josh Smith (No 392) in 36 minutes 3 seconds. He was from the team 'Nomad Left Behind'. The first girl past the post was Emily Mylchreest (No 616) from team 'Smells Like Team Spirit'. The longer course was 12.5 km and the winner was Charlie Teare (No 418) from team 'Leg Openers' in 1 hour 4 minutes 44 seconds. The first female finisher was Sian Coleman (No 562) in 1 hour 12 minutes 16 seconds . In the longer course there were 373 finishers. The organisers of the event hope the popularity of the event (for which there is an entry fee) will eventually grow to 1000 competitors.
