The New Year’s Honours Awards list for 2025 was released just prior to the end of 2024. Included was the name of Captain of the Parish of Patrick, Patricia Mary Costain.
Pat, as she is known, was a Patrick Commissioner for over 30 years and a Justice of the Peace from the days when people were invited to serve rather than today's method of self-nominating. She had to stand down when reaching the mandatory retirement age but is still permitted to use the initials JP after her name. Pat has been a prison visitor and a Circuit Steward with the Methodist Church being a member of the congregation at Glen Maye. She has also been a longstanding member of the Mothers Union. She has long been involved with the Peel Charity Shop and is currently Chairperson of the Trustees of the charity. Pat was appointed Captain of the Parish of Patrick in 2010. She has been granted the honour of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her outstanding contribution to public service and charitable causes on the Isle of Man.
