On 21st April 2016, Her Majesty the Queen celebrated her 90th Birthday. To commemorate the event beacons were to be lit on the summit of the highest peaks in England, Northern Island, Scotland and Wales (Scarfell Pike, Slieve, Ben Nevis and Mount Snowden). Other beacons were to be lit across the country on church towers, beaches, mountains and other places. The intention was to have 1000 beacons lit across the UK, Crown Dependencies and British Overseas Territories. There were proposals for a beacon to be built and lit by the Civil Defence on the top of Snaefell. At Tynwald Hill German Commissioners organized an event where Captain Of the Parish, Allen Corlett, was invited to light a gas jet at the base of Tynwald Hill. This took place at 8.30pm following the reading of a message from His Royal Highness Prince Charles congratulating Her Majesty on achieving the age of 90. The event was attended by members of the public.
