Two Captains were invited to attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace three years ago but because of the Covid lockdowns and precautions their attendance was postponed until this year. Captain of the Parish of German, Allen Corlett and his wife Jane were invited on account of his forty years voluntary service with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. John Quayle Captain of the Parish of Jurby was accompanied by Miss Thelma Corrin. John’s invitation was on the recommendation of former Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney. The afternoon , despite what appears in the photograph ,was however spoilt by rain. Allen had a prearranged meeting with the Duke of Kent, President of the RNLI, as part of the afternoon’s proceedings. Later the Princess Royal, who met Allen at the Peel Lifeboat on Tynwald Day last year, came over to chat with him.
