Civic Visit to Marown, March 2024

On 21st March 2024 His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor and Lady Lorimer paid an official visit to the Parish of Marown in the centre of the Island. They were accompanied by Captain of the Parish, Charles Faragher MBE CP JP, and driven to various locations in the parish by local resident David Mylchreest in his Range Rover. The party met up with three of the five members of the Marown Parish Commissioners, visiting the old parish church of St Runius along with the Vicar of Marown, Rev. Canon Janice Ward, and local historian, Rosemary Gibson, who told of its history. At the Marown Playing Fields His Excellency and Lady Lorimer tried out playing bowls on the crown green. Then it was on to Eyreton Park to meet residents in the sheltered accommodation. Finally the party travelled to Ballafreer, the home of the Captain of the Parish, where afternoon tea had been prepared by Lara Barnes. The party was joined by several parishioners representing various clubs, charities and community groups from the Parish of Marown.
