John Charles Fargher was appointed Captain of the Parish of Marown in 2001 at the age of 51. In the New Year's Honours List 2015 he was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to various charities and the wider Isle of Man community. The presentation of his award was made at Buckingham Palace later in the year when he was accompanied by his family who were photographed after the ceremony.

Other Captains to be Honoured by the Queen are Clare Christian OBE (2016), Donald Gelling CBE (2002) and Peter Kelly MBE (1998).
