On 26th September 2019 it was announced that Stephen Carter of Baldrine had been appointed Captain of the Parish of Lonan in succession to the late Jack Faragher. A few days prior to his swearing in he had a baptism of fire when he was asked to chair a public meeting in Laxey following the flooding that caused such devastation in Glen Road. His role was to take a neutral position as chairman and to ensure the meeting was steered with a steady hand. At the beginning of the meeting he explained that whilst he had been announced as the next Captain of the Parish he was not yet sworn in.
