In the year 2000, Captain of the Parish of Rushen, Stanley Clucas provided The Rushen Millennium Cup as the Captain’s Prize for the Parish of Rushen. It has been presented every year since then. The recipients are varied as individuals or groups but in each case were being recognised for their outstanding contribution to the Parish of Rushen. Past recipients have included Rushen Silver Band, The Port St. Mary Concert Party, The Erin Arts Centre and Paul Costain to name but a few.
The cup for 2021 was presented jointly to Hugh and Sandra Davidson of Port Erin. They were the architects and prime movers in the formation and running of the Rushen Heritage Trust.
On Saturday 26th June 2021 the trust formally opened their new permanent headquarters and exhibition centre in what had previously been a very large ‘bus shelter in Bridson Street, Port Erin opposite the Cherry Orchard Hotel.
Because of the numbers invited the ceremony took place in St Catherine’s Church Hall, Port Erin and then guests inspected the new headquarters at their leisure.
Prior to the guests leaving the hall the Captain of the Parish presented his prize to the Davidsons in recognition of all they had done for the parish in bringing to light the history of the area with talks, walks, exhibitions and publications in incredible numbers yet in such a short period of time.
