New Manx Hymn Book Launched
Fri, 07 Apr 2006
A new hymn book featuring original hymns written and collected on the Isle of Man has been launched in St. German's Cathedral in Peel. Entitled 'The Everlasting Hills' the book contains some 250 hymns by Manx composers, many of whom were amateur musicians. These hymns have been collected from private manuscripts, rare publications and other sources which have not been available for many years. The collection is a testimony to the vibrant musical life of the Isle of Man. The collection has been brought together and edited by Dr Fenella Bazin and is part of a series of publications featuring Manx music published by the Centre for Manx Studies. The research for this new volume was funded by the Manx Heritage Foundation. Some of the hymns are composed in four-parts and others are in unison with piano accompaniment. There are an additional 50 with texts only. The book is specially bound to facilitate use on music stands. You can purchase the book from this website by clicking on 'Publications' and then 'Books' and scrolling down to 'The Everlasting Hills'.Manannan wants your help in choosing a cultural hero!
