Commitment to Manx Culture through Corporate Support

Thu, 05 Jun 2025

Island Escapes, an award-winning holiday lettings agency on the Isle of Man, has deepened its commitment to preserving the Island’s rich cultural heritage by partnering with Culture Vannin. A recent £5,000 donation underscores the company’s dedication to sustaining and celebrating Manx traditions, with the aim of encouraging greater corporate involvement in Manx culture.

The funds, raised through voluntary customer donations, will help Culture Vannin expand its grant-giving scheme, which supports a broad range of community based cultural initiatives including festivals and events. By working together, Island Escapes and Culture Vannin hope to inspire other businesses to recognise the value of cultural investment.

Dr. Breesha Maddrell, Director of Culture Vannin, highlighted the transformative impact of corporate support:

"Culture Vannin is currently only able to award financial support to around 40% of all grant applications we receive. This is due to ever-increasing demand on limited budgets, as more individuals and organisations seek funding to develop exciting projects connected to Manx culture. Whilst our charity strives to support as many initiatives as possible, our resources can only stretch so far. Donations like this one from Island Escapes make a huge difference, enabling us to support more cultural happenings in the community that enrich life on the Isle of Man. It’s incredibly heartening to see businesses and visitors alike recognising the value of Manx culture and actively contributing to its sustainability."

For Island Escapes, cultural engagement is not just an act of philanthropy — it is a strategic investment in the Isle of Man’s unique identity. By preserving and promoting Manx heritage, businesses can contribute to a thriving, culturally unique destination that attracts visitors, strengthens community ties, and enhances the overall visitor experience.

John Keggin, Commercial Director of Island Escapes, emphasised the importance of business-led cultural support:

“As a company rooted in the Isle of Man, we understand that our island’s distinct character is a key draw for both visitors and those who call the Isle of Man home. Partnering with Culture Vannin allows us to give back in a meaningful way, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy and celebrate the traditions that make our island so special. We hope this donation encourages other businesses to consider how they, too, can contribute to sustaining our vibrant cultural landscape.”

Culture Vannin is a proud stakeholder, and Island Escapes is an active partner, in UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man. Their involvement reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, heritage preservation, and responsible business practices. This collaboration aligns with the Biosphere’s mission to protect the island’s cultural and natural environment, including its intangible cultural heritage, ensuring that the language, music and traditional customs continue to thrive alongside economic and community development.
