Recognition for board member - Dr Catriona Mackie FSA

Mon, 23 Mar 2015

We are delighted to announce that Culture Vannin board member, Dr Catriona Mackie, has been elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.

A rare honour, Dr Mackie's fellowship is regarded as a recognition of significant achievement in the fields of archaeology, antiquities, history and heritage.

The Society of Antiquaries of London was founded in 1707 and has 2,900 Fellows including many distinguished archaeologists and art and architectural historians. The Society’s principal objectives are to foster public understanding of that heritage, to support research and communicate the results and to engage in the formulation of public policy on the care of our historic environment and cultural property.

Dr Mackie's own research follows three inter-related strands, heritage, tourism and language and their role in the construction and portrayal of national identity, both historically and in the present. Her research bridges the disciplines of historical archaeology and ethnology, and also relates to wider issues in the area of heritage studies. She is especially interested in rural vernacular architecture, and has written extensively on the development of traditional housing on the Isle of Lewis.

Dr Mackie is Lecturer in History at the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education. You can read more of her work online

Moylley as soylley da Catriona - congratulations!
