RECRUITING: Yn Greinneyder Manx Language Development Officer
Culture Vannin is looking to make an appointment to the role of Yn Greinneyder, Manx Language Development Officer.
Yn Greinneyder works to develop opportunities, skills and resources relating to the Manx language. The ideal candidate will be highly organised and motivated, with a strong sense of resilience and the ability to command respect as one of the public faces of the language. The role demands flexibility, adaptability and a varied skill-set in order to deliver a wide range of development work.
The ideal candidate will be a fluent speaker of Manx with experience of teaching in either a formal or informal capacity. The role requires the preparation and delivery of structured courses, classes and resources for adult learners and speakers, so a good level of written Manx and competent desktop publishing are both essential. Yn Greinneyder also works to promote the language and support delivery of the Manx Language Strategy. Maintaining an active social and traditional media presence is key.
This is an exciting opportunity to work in partnership with the community to secure the future of our language and culture and to encourage greater recognition of their place within Manx identity, nationally and internationally.
The successful candidate will join a small but dedicated team within the cultural centre at St John’s. A clean driving licence is required and Isle of Man Worker status is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate will hold a degree or equivalent professional qualification(s) and be able to demonstrate:

an excellent command of Manx and English languages combined with a good understanding of social and traditional media
-
the ability to use innovative approaches to communicate the key messages of the importance of Manx language and culture to all ages and backgrounds

the ability to work well in a small team and independently, managing own budget, time and any contractors
-
an ability to contribute to the development of the cultural centre as part of the visitor economy and to support the general work of the organisation

The Manx Language Development Officer Yn Greinneyder will be required to:
-
develop a strategic approach to the promotion and support of the Manx language in the community
-
develop, deliver and manage adult language courses, classes and conversation groups
-
prepare and produce online material suitable for independent learners and speakers
-
manage a modest annual budget and report to the board regularly
-
complete projects that support the language community already in progress
-
undertake other work associated with the above responsibilities and with the operation of the cultural centre as they arise and as directed.
The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and commencing once all pre-appointment checks are complete. Job share would be considered for the right candidates.
The Manx Heritage Foundation trading as Culture Vannin is registered charity 333 in the Isle of Man.
