CALL FOR VISUAL ARTISTS IN THE ISLE OF MAN!

Culture Vannin and the Isle of Man in Lorient 2015 invite artists living and working in the Isle of Man to apply to represent the Island at the Inter-Celtic Festival Exhibition 2015 in Lorient, Brittany.

  • Submissions can be made online (via email) until 12th January 2015 (revised deadline).
  • Selected artists exhibit at the Galerie du Faouedic, Lorient, in the summer of 2015 during Festival Interceltique de Lorient www.festival-interceltique.com
  • There is no obligation for all artists to attend the festival

Background

The Galerie du Faouedic is situated in the heart of Lorient and enjoys a central position during the festival. For the last 40 years, each summer, around 800,000 people from all over the world visit the Breton port of Lorient for the Festival Interceltique de Lorient. From Galicia to Scotland, the very best of Celtic music and art can be found there. The 10 day festival boasts around 200 events, shows and 5,000 performers on the bill. The thousands of tourists soak up the Celtic atmosphere and the Lorient locals are wholeheartedly involved in the festival which celebrates Celtic culture. The 2015 festival is especially significant as the Isle of Man and Cornwall will be the lead nations. The exhibition will bring together work from both Celtic nations.

Entry criteria

Artists should be over 18 years old, living and working in the Isle of Man. All work should be contemporary, inspired by any aspect of the Isle of Man, with priority given to work that is ‘cutting edge’. All media accepted including, paintings, drawings, all sculpture in any medium, collage, ceramics, printmaking, photography and digital media.

Visual documentation

You may submit up to 5 images or 5 links to video or audio works of both to represent your practice.

  • All images should be 72 dpi JPEGS with maximum file size of 500 KB. NO OTHER FORMAT WILL BE ACCEPTED.
  • Each image file must be named with your surname, first name and a number from 1-5 e.g. SmithJane1.jpg. This number should correspond with the image information on your email statement.
  • If your work or documentation involves moving image or sound, please upload it to YouTube and paste links in the email. Each clip must be no longer than 5 minutes long and must be labelled so that it is easily identifiable as your work. You may submit a mixture of images and videos but only a maximum of 5 examples of your practice in total.
  • Please bear in mind that the judging will be made from the visual material submitted, follow up studio visits may be made with all selected artists to choose work for the exhibition.

Supplementary material

Applicants may supply a 250 word statement and 1 (A4 size) CV set in minimum type 10 font.

Receipt of application

All applications will receive email confirmation that their submission has been received.

Notification

Final selection, based on submitted material and in conjunction with Cornwall will be made in January 2015. Due to the high expectation of applications, only successful artists will be notified.
