A conversation with Jackie Beattie, focussing on her childhood in the Bridge Hotel in Douglas during WW2 and after.
Born 01/07/1938 in the Shore Hotel, Laxey, Jackie moved with her parents to the Bridge Hotel, on Douglas harbour, at the age of 5. Of this period she speaks about school, friends, shops, the harbour, illness, doctors, trips to Port Soderick and the open air services at Kirk Braddan, visitors, dance halls, entertainments, rationing and more.
At the age of 16 she began her career as a hairdresser, in Douglas and Port Erin, which she enjoyed very much.
"Wonderful days," she reflects in the interview, "how lucky we were."
