taking our culture forward

A short conversation about Hunt the Wren as it was practiced on Douglas Head Road in the 1940s and early 1950s by the Morrison family.

Irene Brew (nee Morrison) explains how she and her cousins went around the houses nearby singing at the doorsteps on the morning of 26 December in the hope of receiving money. Her experience of the Manx tradition is unlike the modern practice in that there was no dancing and there was no wren pole.

Also present is Peter Brew, Irene's husband, who recalls their revived Hunt the Wren carried out in Braddan in the 1980s and 90s with the Girl Guides.
