Conversations with Cristl Jerry, about her life at the centre of the Manx cultural revival of the 1970s onwards.

The first interview covers topics including the following: childhood, family connection to Knockaloe Internment Camp, teacher training college, meeting Colin Jerry, honeymoon to the Isle of Man in 1963, moving to Peel permanently in 1968, teaching in the Isle of Man, the founding of King Chiaullee, Colin Jerry’s jazz interest, an Early Music in the 1970s and Harte’s Ease.

The second interview covers the Manx language and Manx music. Topics discussed include: learning Manx informally amongst friends, Manx language trips away (including to the Calf of Man and Ireland), recording Manx Radio programmes, Mona Douglas, the Lorient Festival in 1976 and for the next 20 years, the start of Yn Chruinnaght Festival, the discovery of the Clague collection of Manx music, the transcription and production of publications like Kiaull yn Theay and Manx music performance practices.

The third interview covers Manx politics, particularly Mec Vannin and the Celtic League. Topics discussed include Manx stamps and coins, the Chronicles of Mann, immigration, flags, Carn, British and other military presence in the Isle of Man, protests and Caarjyn ny Troor. Also discussed was Manx dance, Bock Yuan Fannee, the White Boys, the Laair Vane, Hunt the Wren, cammag and a collection of photographs.
