Arts, Culture and Creativity for Everyone
Mon, 23 May 2022
Culture Vannin and the Isle of Man Arts Council have released the mid-point review of the “Arts, Culture and Creativity for Everyone”, the national development strategy 2017-2027.
The Tynwald approved strategy promotes a shared vision for an Isle of Man where arts and culture are at the heart of our everyday life and everyone has the opportunity to be creative and experience the very real rewards they bring.
During the first five years and despite the global pandemic, the strategy has seen important development work whilst supporting funding recipients focusing on projects, which have made a real difference to the Island community, with applications increasing throughout this time.
The action plan for the next five years focuses on five ambitions which aim to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds, see the development of successful and sustainable creative and cultural communities, promote Manx culture and distinctiveness as central to the Island’s identity, focus on wellbeing and sense of place, and embrace innovation, media and technology.
Chris Thomas MHK, Chair of Culture Vannin said:
“Culture and the arts are important for their own sake, but also for the role they play in building community and connections nationally and internationally. We are inspired by the incredible people who create, perform and participate, those who research and educate, those who organise festivals and events. Together, we work to make the Isle of Man stand out as somewhere that embraces creativity, innovation and lifelong learning.”
Marlene Maska MLC, Chair of the Isle of Man Arts Council also commented:
“It has been truly inspiring to witness the exciting progress made in the early years of the Strategy, including the significant growth in our reach and engagement across the Island, and internationally beyond our shores. We have been privileged to assist our creative community through some very difficult times, but the experience gained has informed our approach and the crafting of our refreshed strategy for the coming years. Working closely with Culture Vannin has reinforced the synergies which already existed and we look forward to this continued positive engagement.”
