Launch of the new book on Henry Bloom Noble at the Isle of Man Bank
Fri, 28 Oct 2005
The Manx Heritage Foundation launched a new book entitled Henry Bloom Noble: His Life and the Work of his Trust by local author Derek Winterbottom. The book charts the extraordinary life of Noble who arrived on the Island virtually a pauper, and within twenty years was the Island's richest man. When he died in 1903, his vast fortune was left to Trustees who set about making sure that H B Noble became the Isle of Man's greatest benefactor. They set up Noble's Hospital, the Ramsey Cottage Hospital the Villa Marina, playing fields and swimming baths, as well as any number of smaller endowments which are still bringing benefit to the Manx people over a hundred years later. This fascinating new biography is on sale in shops priced £8.00What lies beneath Rushen Abbey's bones?
