Music and dance are at the heart of cultural identity in the Isle of Man. They offer important ways to promote a sense of community and belonging and for everyone to participate in and celebrate our cultural identity. Our performers represent the Isle of Man at festivals and events around the world, helping to establish a sense of difference internationally as well as adding to our high quality of life at home.
Culture Vannin employs a Manx Music Development Officer who works with the community, IOM Schools and IOM Music Service to develop curriculum and resources and the production of CDs, DVDs, books, etc.
Manx Music Development supports a wide range of genres within Manx music, including church, concert, music hall, West Gallery and traditional music – as well as the development of Manx dance.
Our central objective is to continue to encourage and develop the study, performance and experience of the music and dance of the Isle of Man and to support these areas through four key areas:
1. Developing skills 2. Developing resources 3. Promotion & support 4. Collection & research
