taking our culture forward

Pargeiys Caillit is a Manx Gaelic retelling of the material of John Milton's 'Paradise Lost', which has been misunderstood ever since its publication in 1796.
Many questions, such as to what degree it is, in fact, a 'translation' of Milton's work, who the author actually is, and when it was written, have been inadequately addressed for over 200 years, and the work's originality and brilliance has lain obscured as a result.
Professor Max W. Wheeler has worked on a new edition of the book (with extensive footnotes and translation into English), allowing him to finally get to the bottom of these mysteries so important to Manx literature.

This is the 2024 Ned Maddrell Lecture.
It was organised by Possan Ronsee Gaelgagh - Manx Language Research Group, hosted by Manx National Heritage, and delivered in the Manx Museum, Douglas, on 6 November 2024.It was delivered as a part of the Cooish Manx Language Festival.
