An illustrated talk on the history of Manx dialect theatre.
From its earliest beginnings in Peel in the 1900s through to the Michael Players RBV today, Manx dialect theatre has always been not only a joy, but also uniquely celebratory of what it is to be Manx. By looking back at the successive periods of development from Sophia Morrison and Cushag in the 1900s through to the present day, the story takes us around the world, through some of the Island’s greatest literary talents, touching on a number of surprises, and into the heart of what means to be Manx.
The talk includes a scutch of archive audio and video recordings, much of which has not been heard publicly before.
