One of the Isle of Man's most important and inspiring supporters of the Manx language are surprised with the 2021 Londeyr award...
The Isle of Man Post Office has been a leader in the promotion and celebration of Manx Gaelic over recent years, with so many sets of stamps and coins having been issued which feature and even revolve around the Isle of Man's Gaelic language.
They have repeatedly gone out of their way to position Manx as a key aspect of our cultural identity, important to be celebrated and promoted as an essential part of what makes our Island unique.
It is for this reason that we were able to surprise them with the Londeyr award.
Presented annually by Jeebin, the Manx Language Network, the Londeyr (or ‘lantern’) award was introduced in 2018 and celebrates a person or a group making new efforts to increase the use of the Manx language on a daily basis.
