Manx Folk Awards
Wed, 17 Jan 2018
A series of 22 short videos have been released showing some of the best talent to be found amongst young people in Manx schools, courtesy of the Manx Folk Awards.
The Manx Folk Awards (Aundyryn Kiaull-Theay Vannin) are an annual set of informal competitions in traditional Manx music, dance and performance. They are organised by the Department of Education and Children, Culture Vannin and Manx National Heritage, and held the last week before the Easter holidays in Douglas.
In 2017 we were delighted that Ron Corkish was there to capture many of the winning performances on video, which has enabled us to edit and release this series of films showing some of the highlights from the winners last year.
They include school choirs, solo song, group dances, solo dances, folk groups, solo instrumentals, recitations and more.
We have released the series of films in order to time in with the release of the syllabus for the 2018 Manx Folk Awards which is now available on the MFA website. All schools or independent children are encouraged to consider taking part again this year!
As a taste of the talent on show at the awards (and now available online thanks to Ron Corkish's films), here is the Anagh Coar choir performing Lin Marsh's Moddey Dhoo:
