Yn Chruinnnaght has joined forces with Cooish to organise two days of Manx language events and activities on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st October.
Jeheiney, 20th October:
We will be encouraging people to use as much Gaelg on social media as possible that day, whilst the DEC peri Manx language team have some specific projects for their students.
8pm GIENSE ~ Gaelg concert from 8-11pm at the Masonic Hall in Peel that will include music from Scran and the Mollag Band, as well as a quiz and the launch of a new book from Yn Cheshaght Ghailckagh.
A £5 wristband (free for kids) must be purchased in advance at Culture Vannin, via Manx classes with Adrian Cain or reserved: info@ynchruinnaght.com
Jesarn 21st October: We will be running a series of workshops during the day at Culture Vannin in St Johns
10am-12pm: Keirdlann Çhyndaays ~Translation Workshop with Bob Carswell. This will be suitable for anyone who would like to write more Gaelg or who is interested in the process of translation and writing.
OR
10am-12pm: Gaelg son paarantyn ~ Manx for parents. Adrian Cain, Manx language officer for Culture Vannin, will be running a workshop for people who’d like to use some Manx with their children. Topics will include ‘Manx at breakfast time’, ‘Manx at school pick-up’, etc.
2pm-4pm: Arrane son Mannin ~ Song for Mannin workshop. Ran by members of the Yn Chruinnaght committee, this will help potential songwriters develop their Manx compositions for the Manx Gaelic song competition… with the winner then representing the Isle of Man at the Pan-Celtic Song Contest in 2018.
OR
2pm-4pm: Gaase yn co-phobble ~ Expanding the tent / Paalan: Manx language officer for Culture Vannin, Adrian Cain, will be running a ‘brainstorming session’ with people who would like to become involved in developing the Cooish over the next few years. The aim is to put together a committee of people with new ideas and plenty of enthusiasm who can help broaden the appeal of the language and work towards the ‘Year of Gaelg’ in 2021.
The workshops are free (although donations welcome) but we’d like people to book in advance so we have a good idea of numbers.
You can indicate your interest in Arrane son Mannin at info@ynchruinnaght.com whilst you can contact adrian@culturevannin for the three other Manx language workshops.
