Angela W Little is Professor Emerita of the University College London where she held the Chair of Education and International Development between 1987 and 2010. She was previously a Fellow of the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex.
She has published extensively, directed numerous comparative education research projects, supervised many research students to successful completion of their doctorates and written and directed two films. She is a former President of the British Comparative and International Education Society. For many years she chaired the International Advisory Board of the University of Oxford’s Young Lives Research Project, was a member of the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission and the Council of the Overseas Development Institute. She holds the Sahithya Viza Vurudu, the Tamil literary and cultural award for her contribution to the education and culture of tea and rubber plantation workers and their children in Sri Lanka.
Manx ‘born and bred’ in Braddan and Port St Mary, she was educated at Rushen Primary School, Castle Rushen High School and the Universities of Surrey, London and Sussex. She is currently a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, Trustee of the United Kingdom Forum for International Education and Training and the European Scholarship Fund of University College London, and Patron of the Ceylon Workers’ Education Trust. She is writing a history of education in Port St Mary for the Rushen Heritage Trust; and is an active member of the Manx Footpaths Conservation Group, the One World Centre, the United Nations Association and Glenfaba Chorale.
An enthusiastic student of Manx Gaelic, she now lives in Peel.
