Culture Vannin gave funding to Onchan Parish Hall to enable them to install a sound and stage lighting system in order to upgrade facitilies.
Designed by renowned Arts & Craft architect Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott (1865 - 1945), the hall is valuable commodity for Onchan and is used every day of the week. It is often referred to as St. Peter's Church Hall, but is not owned by the church, nor is the church responsible for its running or maintenance.
The age of the building has meant that it has required substantial structural work over the years. Though hiring out the hall generates good rental income, which can pay for some of this work, other improvements were needed to keep facilities up to date to guarantee hiring of the hall in future. The lighting and sound system which Culture Vannin provided funding for were intended to benefit drama classes, the numerous groups who hold meetings in the hall and to greatly enhance live performances, concerts and fund raising events for the community.
