In 2016, Culture Vannin set up an annual bursary in the name of the late Professor Brian Kaneen. A Manxman living and working as a lecturer in German and linguistics at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Professor Kaneen left a generous legacy linked to the Manx language. The bursary scheme reflects his wish to create opportunities for young Manx speakers to develop a wider understanding of the Gaelic continuum. Recipients receive expenses towards a summer school in Irish in Donegal with Oideas Gael.
The scheme will be advertised annually - applications for 2016 NOW CLOSED.
Applicants should fulfil the following criteria:
1) Aged 18-25
2) Resident in the Isle of Man (this includes those resident in the IOM but studying in the UK, Ireland or elsewhere)
3) Fluent speaker of Manx (minimum TCG or equivalent)
