Book launch - Manx Gaelic translation of 'The Gruffalo's Child'
Mon, 21 Oct 2013
The continued growth in support and interest in the Manx Language will receive another boost shortly with the release of 'Neen y Ghruffalo/ the Gruffalo's Child.
Last year saw the release of the Manx version of Julia Donaldson's classic yn Gruffalo and the follow up is expected to be just as popular with all those - young and old alike - who have an interest in the language.
The translation of this classic story which tells the tale of the young Gruffalo on a cold and snowy night as she encounters the hullad/owl; shynnagh/fox; aarnieu/snake and of course the lugh vooar olk/the big bad mouse has been made possible by the Manx Heritage Foundation and generous financial support from Lloyds TSB.
Peter Reid, Island Director & head of Banking Operations comments that 'The publication of the Manx Gaelic version of ‘Neen y Ghruffalo – the Grufflao’s Child is something Lloyds TSB is very proud to have supported. It’s further illustration that the language community is vibrant and that the language has a really bright future'.
The Manx version of The Gruffalo's Child will be launched at the Family Library in Douglas on Thursday 31st October between 10 and 11.00am. Copies of the book will be available to buy at a discounted rate whilst well-know artist and graphic designer, Gary Myers, will be on hand to help children draw their own versions of a hullad, shynnagh, aarnieu, lugh vooar veg and or course 'neen y Ghruffalo
Copies of 'Neen yn Ghruffalo, which comes with a free CD of the story being narrated, will soon by available in shops.
